Jennifer Ankele: Medium

After my fiance passed away suddenly in early 2020, my life was shattered. My future was shattered, my plans, completely washed away. The grief seemed insurmountable and starting my life over from scratch felt impossible while facing grief. A year after my Michael's death, I started to seek out a medium. I had been feeling Michael's presence and in some cases, even heard him. It felt a little crazy making. I wanted verification. The first Medium I sought out was a complete hack. I was under the impression I paid for a mediumship reading, but I didn't get any sort of mediumship reading. She wanted to give me an astrology reading and every other reading available but a medium reading. I was devastated, again. Then months later, I was scrolling on my instagram and a Grief Medium post came up. I was super skeptical but I looked into it. Her prices were affordable and I thought.... well.... if it's another hack job, then so be it. At least it was an affordable loss. Jennif...

You Are My Property! by Lucie Hanzlickova

This is a strong statement, right? But have you ever felt like you have been someone's property? Coercive power is a form of Domestic Violence. Some men think they can treat women like property and some women treat men like property. I don't like to compare women to physical property, but if I am going to play this game : How will the property look like when there is no caring, no respect, no love, no repairs, and no investment in it from the person who owns it?! What is left from a woman/property then? What will the inner world of this woman look like? How damaged is her "property" when there is nothing left to take or destroy? Cracks, empty falling walls, broken glass, holes in the ceiling.... No protection from storms and rain falling from the sky, keeping everything damp and cold. I usually write in a positive attitude, but I think sometimes it just doesn't hit the nail on the head. I want you to shake you and wake you up! If people want to treat other peopl...

Creating a Life of Kindness by Dr. Wendy Rae D.D.

Mark Twain nailed the concept of kindness in one sentence: Kindness is the only language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. 20 years ago, sifting through a small town library in northwest Iowa, I stumbled upon a book of quotes. At the time I was editor of the weekly newspaper and was always looking for inspiration to pass along to the community. Little did I know that this small book of quotes was going to impact me two full decades later. In one of the sections of the quote book was a particular area that I found myself reading repeatedly. It was the section on kindness. At that time, I was going through some huge personal issues and I was struggling with how to remain open to possibility, keep my motivation high, and how to be a positive influence for my 6 old daughter. Three quotes from that book have stayed with me. “A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.” Steve Maraboli “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the greatest intent...

Anxiety & Depression by Elise Ho, PhD

It’s perfectly normal to feel anxious or depressed occasionally, especially in response to life’s stressors. However, when these feelings become prolonged, disproportionate or apparent for no significant reason, they need to be addressed. Characterized by a constant overwhelming state of fear or worry, anxiety can be debilitating in its physical manifestations, too. The symptoms of depression may be similar with unrelenting feelings of sadness or despair. The exact cause is still unclear; however, changes in brain chemistry, genetic factors, and hormone function are all believed to play a role. Irrespective of the cause, mental illness requires and generally responds to professional treatment. Our understanding of mental illness has evolved over time, yet it still presents certain difficulties. Diagnostically speaking, depression and anxiety primarily affects the way an individual thinks and feels, and in most cases subsequently behaves; therefore we generally rely upon patients to...

Consciously Processing Emotion by Vito Mucci

As we grow up there are a litany of skills we are taught in school, and, depending on our home life, another set of skills we are taught at home. Unlike banking or paying taxes or organizing bills, nothing in our lives as young adults forces us to learn this skill as a natural part of adulthood. In fact, we are generally unaware that it is important at all, even though our inability to do it disrupts our lives on a daily basis. This skill is the conscious processing of emotion. I grew up with a notion, maybe you did too, that people with emotional problems or addictions can't cope with life. When I was buried in panic and alcohol, my "inability to cope with life" was not an actionable thing to improve. I would ask "How can I cope with life better?" The answers were vague and unhelpful, "suck it up." From inside a broken brain and life, I had to figure out what it was that I couldn't cope with. It turned out that it was "feelings." Fe...

Expressive Healing Through Art by CARree Tolle

I've heard it so many times, “I am not an artist or artsy at all.” Well, It is not all about drawing, painting and being an artist. Art Therapy embodies the creative and expressive side of our intuitive memories and life that helps us heal through expression and personal development through different modalities including art, writing, music, and the written word, as well as journaling. Have you ever had that perfect song come on and you can relate? As if they are singing about you or directly to you? Through music; musicians sing about very familiar subjects, the harmonies are very accessible and understandable creating that connection. This is caused by emotional influence, and through the process of empathy and relating to the struggles or triumphs conveyed through a song, a message, a quote and even an image. Perhaps a memory or feeling caused by an occurrence that happened to you, or what someone has said to you, be it positive or negative. These are all types of artis...

Being an Empath by Terra Bundance

Being an empath comes with many gifts and many challenges. I have personally known what it means to be an empath since I was seven years old. It is now 40 years since my first awareness, and I have spent an entire lifetime studying, practicing, honing, and forming a relationship with the gifts and challenges. If you happen to know you are an empath, know this- I see you, I hear you, and I believe in you. Over the next few months, I will be sharing tools and grace-filled ways to experience and express your life without feeling like something is wrong with you. If you have never heard of empaths, or you only have a basic awareness of what it means, it is my goal to support you in getting to know, understand and trust yourself or your loved one, co-worker, or potential partner a little more. I feel it is so important to have compassion for others, and to learn to live with people who are different from us with loving kindness. The dictionary.com description of empath is as follows: “e...

Letting Go & Accepting Change

“Look around you. Everything changes. Everything on this Earth is in a continuous state of evolving, refining, improving, adapting, enhancing…changing. You were not put on this Earth to remain stagnant.” – Dr. Steve Maraboli The above quote is one of my absolute favorites; whenever I read it, I’m reminded that there is always opportunity for personal growth in life. It is a known fact that the things around us in our physical reality change from day to day, most times whether we want them to or not and whether we expect them to or not. For instance, we all experience the wavering changes of Mother Nature in our daily lives. The weather changes from minute to minute, hour by hour. Thus this is why many of us are obsessed with watching the nightly news to stay ahead of the constant weather changes. However, how many times has the meteorologist’s forecast failed you and you found yourself caught in pouring rain when mostly sunny skies were just promised to you hours ago? Now, I would ...

Winnowing & Shamanic Journeying

by Jessie Marie I’ve always been interested in death - the process, what comes next, and communication with non-corporeal spirits. My favorite time for nature photography is autumn - when the flowers have mostly faded and are barely hanging on. This fascination has also led me into a special interest in birth as well - the opposite of death, where a person is brought from the beyond the veil into our world. In addition, it’s led me to ponder the many ways we die and are reborn throughout our lives. There is the obvious - aging. Most cultures have a coming of age ceremony of some sort in the mid teens, especially for girls becoming women. The Catholic sacrament of Confirmation, the Jewish Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the Southern USA debutante balls, the Latin American Quinceañera, and more all over the world. While the girl-specific ones, at least in the West, tend to be a bit (if not overly) patriarchal in their ideas of preparation for suitors and marriage, the coming of age ceremony is an im...

Wanting Change Doesn't Mean You Will Change

by Dov Baron We’ve all heard it time and time again - your brother, coworker, spouse, or friend is going to change. People love to talk about all the habits they’ll be breaking (or creating), the goals they’ll be setting, and the changes they’ll be making. And while they likely believe that they mean it, the reality is: they don’t. How can I be so sure? Well, most people aren’t willing to do what it takes to actually change! In almost 25 years of leading and coaching, what I’ve found is that most people will say they want change, or agree that they need to change, but only if…. If they don’t have to be inconvenienced. If they don’t have to give up being comfortable. If they can hold on to everything from their “pre-change” life that they like. What it boils down to is this: “People want to change...as long as they don’t have to change”. Before you point the finger - this is true of you too. Every goal in life that you’ve set but not achieved, every habit you intended to break bu...
